Crusaders - 2 at Storm - 0

A 33 save performance by Patrick Terriss paced the Sherwood Park Crusaders to a 2-0 win over the Storm in the Storm's 2010-11 season and home opener. 

The Crusaders opened the scoring 8:11 into the first period on a power play.  Some confusion in the face off led to defenceman Caylen Walls having to take a defensive zone face-off for the Storm.  The Crusaders won the face-off and moved the puck around the Storm zone, eventually leading to Jessi Hilton banging home a rebound to make it 1-0.  the score would stay that way until the 8:20 mark of the third when, on another power play, Josh Lee's wrister eluded Colin Dzijacky to make it 2-0.  The rest got left up to Terriss, who made a few key saves late in the third to preserve the shut out.

The Storm had to do considerable line juggling in the second and third period, after losing a pair of forwards.  First, Jordan Forfar was given a five minute checking to the head major and a game misconduct after hitting Crusaders forward Chris Kallal into the boards with what appeared to be a clean hit.  However, Kallal hit his head on the boards and stayed on the ice for a couple minutes before being helped off the ice.  Then in the third, Dustin Beairsto got involved in a secondary fight with the Crusaders' Andrew Rudzitis, leading to the ejection of both players.  However, video review showed that Beairsto's fight was actually the first one in the stoppage, and that defenceman Nick Yeatman's scrap with Eric Liknes was actually the second fight. 

While the Storm's work effort was there throughout the contest, the team did lack in a number of areas.  The Storm struggled in the face off circle all night, with both Crusaders goals coming directly from face offs.  As well, coach Mike Vandekamp felt his team was squeezing the stick a little too tight in the offensive zone. 

In a rather interesting stat, the loss means the Storm are now 0-3-1 in their home openers since Vandekamp took over as coach in 2007.
